Retrofit
For machines that are mechanically sound, but have a defective or outdated CNC control, retrofitting is an economical alternative to buying a new machine. A retrofit involves replacing the CNC control and all other electrical components, including wiring.
With today's technology, there are many CNC controls from which to choose - from sophisticated controls that run other software, to controls that just run a given machine's operation. KRC engineers and technicians will help make the right choice.
A retrofit can save you a substantial amount of money, since it only costs about 30% of the price of a new machine.

Below read how KRC successfully retrofitted a large vertical boring mill line and raised uptime on the entire line to levels never previously experienced (not even when the machines were new!).

Retrofit - Mini Case History
A major manufacturer of mining equipment had a large vertical boring mill line that they could barely keep running. The line was composed of eight NC machines of various makes, models, and sizes: Giddings & Lewis, Gray and Bullards; two and four axis; 48" to 78" tables. An analysis of maintenance history records revealed that the overwhelming cause of downtime was NC control and electrical failure.

The company contracted KRC to retrofit the complete line with GE-Fanuc control systems and various drive systems. The impact was dramatic. Uptime on the entire line rose to levels never previously experienced (even when the machines were new). When problems arose (a rarity which usually consisted of electrical peripheral hardware), we were back on line much faster through the use of the control systems diagnostic features.

The project was a great success and remains successful seven years later. Not only did the company save money in choosing to retrofit rather than replace, the company continues to save money on their investment through significant savings in maintenance costs and machine availability.
