There’s a good reason that KRC has been in business for over 20 years and has had a dedicated Service Department for the past 20 years now. KRC can handle the most serious machine tool problems. Whether it’s trouble shooting CNC controls, checking alignments, or performing preventative maintenance, KRC is the leader in machine tool field services. With a broad range of manufacturer affiliations we often find that we specialize in you make and model of machine. Basic principles of machine design cross all lines and our technicians are familiar with a wide variety of equipment. Therefore, we can diagnose and repair your machine tools, regardless of make or model, and you give you results. Typically, you already know when your machine tools are not performing up to expectations. When you come to the conclusion that a solution is needed, you must choose the most efficient route to get your machine back to the optimum running condition. What’s needed is Action! And KRC provides that action with quick response times and competitive rates.

What can I expect when I use KRC for Field Service?

You can expect high level of technical expertise with a few extra perks. When you call your typical service provider, you wait about a day for them to call you back with a date and time to be at your facility. And usually the date and time is not tomorrow morning! When you call KRC to schedule a technician, we can usually tell you within 30 minutes when our technician can be at your facility. In most cases we can respond at least one day quicker than our competition. Saving a day of down-time is money in your company’s pocket!

In this current economy it’s important to make smart choices with your maintenance budget dollars, and KRC helps you do that. Service rates usually don’t come cheap, but our service rates offer a savings solution. With rates as low as $95 an hour for maintenance, KRC is a real value. Even if our technicians work over-time our rates stay the same. Our guys stay until the job is finished and will even work up to ten hours a day if needed. KRC is able to offer lower rates because we don’t carry the overhead that many other OEM’s carry, which allows us to pass on the savings to the customer – You! If you’re like most manufacturing facilities, you have multiple types and brands of machine tools – but that doesn’t mean you need multiple service providers! KRC makes it simple; we can be your one stop shop for all you machine tools service needs no matter what make and model.

KRC technicians go the extra mile during the service call. Before we leave your facility, we do a complete machine inspection, taking just a few minutes to educate ourselves about your equipment. We have a “What else can we do for you?” mentality when we are finished fixing your machine. When you sign off on the repair, our technician will review any additional recommendations found while servicing your equipment. If you’d like us to address it, we can start right away to get your machine back to good working order and keep it that way long after we’ve left your facility.

Are KRC’s Technicians Machine Tool Experts?

Absolutely! KRC has rigorous testing for both mechanical and electrical skills; our technicians have to be experts in both fields. Our technicians have an average of 13 years of machine tool service experience. Many have worked for the OEM’s in the past and our technicians may have even serviced your equipment. Our wages are among the highest in the industry, which allows us to attract the most talented people to our Service department. We haven’t been in the machine tool service business for 20 years because we’ve got an army of guys with cell phones standing in front of your machine looking for the answers on the other end of the phone. We’ve done it by getting our hands dirty and sending the guys who already know the answers.

How do I schedule KRC for service?

It’s the little things that make the biggest difference! KRC offers a wide range of machine tool services, but there is one that most people tend to overlook – Preventative Maintenance. Preventative Maintenance is something we say were going to do…get around to…but just never seem to do. Things that are left undone always seem to catch up with us sooner or later. Like that spindle drive that just seemed to burn up last week, or the Turcite that is sticking out from underneath the Z-axis saddle, or the machining center that loses parameters every time the power is shut off to the machine.

Most of these problems can be headed off with a simple Preventative Maintenance (PM) Program. In the case of the spindle drive, the fan went out on the drive and caused it to burn up. The fan cost $100 and the new drive costs $5,000. That’s the cost of failing to have a PM Program. The Turcite issue happened because the Z-axis way cover had chips jammed underneath of it, but the $20 way wipers were worn out. The chips got under the slide and ripped out the Turcite, which will now cost $15,000 to repair. That’s the cost of failing to have a PM Program. The CNC control parameter problem could have been fixed with a new $5 back up battery. It’s costly to tie up an operator or maintenance tech with these types of issues, not to mention the machine down time. Yes, that’s also the cost of failing to have a PM Program.

What’s included in KRC’s Preventative Maintenance Program? Our PM Program is essentially a detailed inspection and cleaning of the machine. Pulling back those way covers once a year and cleaning out the chips can do wonders for your machine. Chip build up can destroy your ways, way wipers, linear guides, and ballscrews. Cleaning and inspecting all the fans in your electrical cabinets can help keep the heat down which will prevent expensive electronics from failing. Replacing the hydraulic oil and filters in your machines once a year will help lower oil temperature and will keep hydraulic lines from leaking or blowing out. Verifying that the proper amount of lube is getting to the spindle and ways will prevent costly repair and rebuilds.

If you’re like most companies in this down economy, production is not quite back to full throttle. Now is the perfect time to perform some preventative maintenance and get all of your equipment back into good working order. KRC can help design and execute an annual or semi-annual Preventative Maintenance Program for all of your machine tools. Not sure if you need an annual or semi-annual program? One year of machine life is based on one shift of operation for one year, so if you have two shifts, that’s the equivalent of two years wear on your machine in one calendar year. If you run more than one shift a day on a machine you should strongly consider a semi-annual plan.

You can always adopt the “if ain’t broke don’t fix it” philosophy, but we all know that the machine will wait until you’re in the middle of an important production run to go down. Preventative maintenance will allow you to schedule your down time instead of it scheduling you. You spend a lot of money for your CNC metal cutting equipment and preventative maintenance can help you protect your investment and increase productivity.
